The storm rolls into SoFi tonight as the Chargers look to get back on track after losing last week’s trap game to the Giants.
On paper, this matchup feels like one the Bolts should control — but Washington isn’t short on intrigue. Kliff Kingsbury’s offense might be predictable, yet it’s quietly efficient. The Commanders rank 6th in rushing success rate (44.1%), leaning heavily on inside zone from 11 personnel — over 70% of the time — and finding most of their success running to the right. Still, this isn’t an explosive attack. Despite ranking 4th in average depth of target, they sit just 28th in explosive play rate.
Pass protection has also been a sore spot. Rookie tackle Josh Connerly anchors the left side where Washington has allowed pressure on 100% of slot blitzes — something Jesse Minter’s defense will surely look to exploit. Expect disguised pressures, calculated blitzes, and disciplined coverage from a coordinator who thrives on preparation and opponent tendencies.
Defensively, Dan Quinn’s unit looks surprisingly ordinary. Bottom-10 in most metrics, they rely on a straightforward mix of nickel, switching between single-high man and Cover-3 looks — often bringing heat on third down but struggling to finish plays. They’ve been forced to stack the box to stop the run… and still haven’t been good at it.
Tonight’s storm isn’t just over SoFi — it’s within it. Let’s see if the Bolts can channel that energy into another win.

And that’s the game. turn out the lights and we’ll do it again next week.
It’s 1 am right here. I should really do it but I’ll probably just keep watching this train wreck and then have a hard time falling asleep. Wrecking my whole work week in the process.
Good stuff
Hampton is hurt? Where is he?
So close
This is the most important drive of the game. Where is Hampton?
Now fucking het back into this one
You rock, Tart.
There isn’t a team in the league that can stop even a half-decent QB who has this kind of time to throw. You just can’t cover people that long.
Absolutely zero pass pressure. Can’t even blame the DBs right now
This team is done. Luckily we play the Raiders again.
Lol I thought Conklin was supposed to have great hands?
Discombobulated
Herbert is still fighting. That guy is so easy to root for
Man oh man, if Herbert had the time in the pocket that Daniels does, we’d be leading by several TDs.
Yeah, a good QB can survive missing his best 3 skill players. Missing the 4 best OL players is just too fucking mich
This team is going nowhere.
That’d be one thing, but it looks right now as if they’re just playing it out.
It really looks like the Keystone Kops out there.
That was delay of game again
Who gives a shit. This team is lifeless
And now even Still is missing tackles. This is so depressing
It actually is kind of contagious. The defense is giving up, one by one.
Minter is Staley for Halloween
This game is done. Anyone remember the pre season presser where they asked Hortiz if he did enough on the OL and his answer was “didn’t we win 11 games last year?” Hows that answer holding up
now? Asshole.
It is done. best we can do is get Herbert out.
It feels as though every year the Chargers get hot with a shit ton of injuries in one injury group.
Minter now please just try to force something here. Blitz, sim pressures, man coverage instead of soft zone. Just do something
Two plays in a row they pulled it out of the hat, and two play in a row pipkins loused it up.
Yeah you could you see the demoralizing effect on the offense in real time in those plays
No shit. I thought Keenan was going to puke.
Fucking Pipkins. Get him out of there
So typical to start up this drive with a long developing pass play
Pull Herbert now so he’s not in an ambulance by the end of the game.
That’s actually not such a bad idea. Get lance some play time.
Boost his trade or comp pick value
LOL. I see that the Giants team we lost to last week just got creamed by the woeful Saints.
So, was it all an illusion?
I said it last week. Good teams NEVER lose that game. They might not play well but they never lose it. That’s a team you should beat with your C game.
Lol, that sure as hell looked like the exact play as the first TD
The last time I saw a Chargers defense this ineffective, Brandon Staley was standing on the sideline.
This staff must have broken their necks blowing themselves after a 3-0 start.
This is as classic as it gets for Charger football. Up 10 driving to go up 13 or 17, cough it up leading to 17 unanswered points after committing a personal foul on a punt return TD.
I really hoped we were over this type of stuff. Apparently not. So frustrating
Who was rushing the left tackle on that play? That was a true weak ass rush
Are there a bunch of injuries on the defense that I don’t know about? This sure looks like the Charger D of yore.
Maybe hold off on the head coaching offers to Minter.
They are playing terrible on defense right now. Hand might be a big loss. Is Tart even playing?
What kind of soft bullshit is this
They deserve to lose
Dude I’m done with Harbaugh. There is no fucking accountability or discipline. Why even attempt a block?
Terrible play. That and QJ’s fumble were big swings.
Fuck this
Why no TO after the sack?
I can understand it. At that point you don’t want to help the offense to get their shit together after a tough sack. Especially since they only had one TO left
No doubt they drive enough to tie it before half
God damn it. How is this game getting away from them so quickly
Defense needs a 3 and out in the worst way here.
Thats how 3rd and long should look when you play defense.
Exactly, dropping 17 yards on a 3 & 16 is so damn infuriating.
3rd and long I would always send a zone dog or CB blitz to get the ball out quick, then just rally and tackle. We have no natural pass rush so sitting in zones is fucking stupid.
Now it feels as though they really need to get a TD here to make sure the score resembles the half they just played
Gotta get at least 3 points before half.
Can never be easy. We’re driving to go up at least another 3 and we cough it up, but we don’t stop them deep in their end. We then let them drive down the field converting 3rd and longs. Fucking incredible.
Yup. Ten or fourteen-point swing off a fumble.
Fumble and complete shit defense.
We let them right back into this game. Fumble and then effing up a 3rd and 16
It’s like the fucking ghost of Staley lives in SoFi
Grmbl, I don’t want to be afraid of 3rd and longs again. PTSD to those Staley defenses
This D is still bad at 3rd and longs.
Yeah, having a true difference maker at pass rush would really help in those situations
Just blitz to make them throw short.
Yeah, not sure why they were in soft coverage when the play call was obvious.
Pretty soon the O-line is going to have to wear those “Hello, I’m………..” tags.
I’m going to say this now so it’s not a second guess, but having Ladd return punts is dumb.
So did this age well or not? 🙂
Johnston can just never play a 100% clean game.
In his defense, that was a hard hit right on the ball, but yeah.
Yeah, real shame. Chargers seem to have a knack for not putting teams away early. A lot of times this season they had a great start but something happened to hand the team the momentum and an opportunity to get back into the game
They are gonna have to use some moving pockets, RPOs or screens to slow this rush down a bit and protect these tackles.
So far Greg Roman is helping the OL fairly well. Of course Herbert moving as well as he is also helps in that regard
Jesus these Oline injuries are just brutal
Damn I get nervous every time we have to cover a KO return…
Well that first drive sure as hell felt a lot different than the one from last week 🙂
