With the College Bowl season upon us, it will be quickly time to pivot to the Pre Draft process for prospects. While LB is not one of the more glaring needs on the roster right now, it is sneakily an area that needs some talent infused. Perryman is on a one year deal, Dye is better as a reserve/role player/core ST player and Colson is a complete unknown that cannot be counted on to step in and be a meaningful contributor in 2026. That leaves only Henley cemented as a top end starter for 2026. This could be a spot to add another cost effective free agent, but it would be nice to add a longer term running mate for Henley that can develop in Minter’s scheme. At a glance this looks to be a good off ball LB class so I could see a late day 2 or day 3 pick being used there, which makes Whit Weeks worth a look. He is only a Junior, so he might not declare in a strong class, but the coaching change at LSU might be a factor in him leaving.

Weeks would be a perfect addition to Minter’s scheme because he is a fantastic zone coverage player who shows great instincts and recognition to diagnose and react. He has the speed to cover sideline to sideline, but has the chops and thump needed in run defense. There is a thought that he might be slightly undersized to be an every down player at the next level, but he has been able to hang in one of the best conferences in college football without limitations. My favorite attribute is that he shows good hands and leverage to get off blocks and make plays and he plays with a controlled violence needed at the position.

Areas of improvement will need to be made in man defense and over aggression in pursuit on window dressing or misdirection plays. He can also improve on pursuit as he can take bad angles that lead to easy missed tackles and blown assignments.

Overall, Weeks fits the role of starting off ball LB and would be a good compliment to Henley as they are both very athletic, fluid athletes who excel on making plays in space. If Colson comes back to be of any relevance, the LB room, along with Dye, will have four interchangeable options for Minter to have at his disposal.ย

I expect Weeks to be a late day two selection, but with the strength of this LB class there is a chance he slides into early day three. There have been some medical concerns in the past, so the medicals at the combine could be a factor in his draft stock. As long as off ball LB is an area that needs to be filled during the draft, Weeks would be a nice addition to the room, especially in this scheme.
