Ryan’s Notes
Positives
- His size is impressive and he uses it well in coverage, his long arms control the vertical parts of routes down the sideline
- His short area quickness is sufficient enough to stay tight through the second phase of route stems.
- His best reps are in low-man coverage roles where he stays tied to receivers through every move they have in their bag. Iโd like to see him play more soft press at the next level in order to use those fluid mirror-man reaction skills to better effect. It seems like Florida Stateโs scheme didnโt fit his talents
Negatives
- His size does not translate to functional play strength. This weakness gets exposed when tackling, he compounds this with poor technique.
- Can get a bit grabby when switching leverage in coverage
- Poor blind spot awareness in shuffle and it leads to some big mistakes in coverage, needs to learn how to zone turn
- His press technique is poor, he punches blind too often with his feet disconnected from his jam attempts.
- His feel for off-man spacing isnโt great as he lacks the timing to let the space close.
- I do not see him going to a Quarters heavy team as he struggles with the route exchanges and break-off points
- Inconsistent player who goes through hot and cold streaks throughout the game.
- He stumbled too often to ignore in the Miami game, his balance through turns is a concern. This also refers back to his speed turn issues which Iโd like to see rectified.
- He struggles with long speed both on tape and through testing
Ryan’s Summary
Azareyeโh is one of those players that looks good on paper but the reality of the tape tells an entirely different story. Aside from his size and length, there is very little you can see as a positive trait. In fact his only other ability scouts will enjoy is his quick mirror reaction time which he uses to stay with vertical route breaks which would mean he could be a man corner if it werenโt for poor press technique, bad off-man skills and a lack of balance when changing direction. His awareness to react to route exchanges leaves you wanting and he refuses to zone turn at all so to see him moving to a zone role seems like a long shot. I feel like he improved slightly between 2023 and 2024 but this was slow progress. Overall he is below the standards required for significant draft picks and I am not sure he can even be described as raw meaning he might already be close to his ceiling.
