Best available per Popper. Lotta guys from my 4 round clusters on here, FWIW.
Overall I’m disappointed!. Did the Charger need a RB? Is Hampton a real good looking RB?Yes & yes, but a back up was the main need and there were a lot of options to do that. Instead, real deep needs were not addressed. They better get a TE & a WR in day 2. If we go OL and DL then I may be even more down.
They needed to either get a Edge player with impact or take a chance on a WR or TE. Of course the smart move would have been a trade down.
NOT real Happy. Come Joe H. make me change my mind.
I was listening to the Lightning Round Podcast live draft video this morning (the draft was live from 2 am – 6 am my local time – not possible for me to watch live this year). They have had inside information for years during the draft and got a lot of information about the potential trade back options.
As some of you already has talked about, the Eagles were one of the teams interested in trading up – apparently for Jihaad Campbell. They didn’t specify any details about a potential trade. I suspect Goedert could have been included, because we missed out on the top 2 TE’s. As always, it worked out for the Eagles to wait.
The Saints were making calls, but were only putting out feelers without anything concrete negotiations.
The Giants were another team making calls. The Giants against doing a deal, because they felt other teams later could be trade partners. The Giants ended up moving up from #34 to #25 in a trade with the Texans by giving up #99 (3rd round) and next years 3rd round pick. I guess they didn’t feel any pressure when the Steelers decided to pass.on Sanders and draft Harmon instead at #21.
The last and most interesting team was the Browns! They were the reason all the time was used up before we decided to draft Hampton. A real offer was close to happening and they were on the phone with them until the very end.
We offered #22 for #36, David Njoku and a swap of late round picks (not specified). We were ready to do that deal, but the Browns were on the fence and time “ran out”, so we had to make a pick.
Hampton was Hortiz’s 18th ranked prospect and the last graded as a “Day 1 starter”. They actually had Barron (#19), Egbuka (#20), Harmon (#21) ranked higher, but they all got pick just before #22.
Hortiz and co. are also adament on getting two pass catchers (WR or TE) before the end of day 2 – either by drafting og trading. They went hard at Njoku, but the Browns didn’t bite. Maybe they also talked about Goedert with the Eagles.
I hope they trade for Andrews after missing out on Loveland and Warren (not their fault, IMO). I’m also fine with Goedert.
At WR, they are in talks with the Steelers about Pickens! What do you guys think about that?
You can listen to Garrett Sisti explaining what happened here from 3:17:30 –> Lightning Round Podcast talks trade-back options
