Not particularly interested at this point in time at what players were mocked to the Chargers here. I’ve done no work on 2025 draftees but will say that either CB or edge is likely at #1, IMO and as the roster looks today. Again, haven’t checked the classes but I feel TE and OC should be higher priority than given here.

I certainly hope we’re picking lower than 16th!! And I may slit my fucking wrists if KC wins it all again.

16th is in that no man’s land spot (just outside of the playoffs, and not a top ten pick). I like the DT, Tyleik Williams from Ohio State, who goes to Pittsburgh at 15. I agree that CB and ED will be critical as well.

There are at least three “first round calibre” Michigan players heading into this season: Colston Loveland (TE), Mason Graham (DT), Will Johnson (CB). I watched a little of all of them during draft prep this year. For all three to go ahead of the Chargers in the Top 15 in this mock was the interesting takeaway for me.

That Wolverines team last year was stacked with talent grown by Harbaugh and his coaches. All very promising.

I gotta say, I am as big on the draft and the scouting of prospects as anyone, but even I think it is a fools errand to complete a mock draft this early. At least wait until November when there has been a ton of football played. At least then you can get an idea of how the prospects are looking, who is healthy, and start to get an idea of the teams that will be in the top 10 of the draft.

@evolz3737 I agree. I was looking more at where they had us picking than who. And that was just curiosity.

I just looked at the Chargers website & found that Kevin Kelly is still listed as the Senior Director of College Scouting.  Kelly joined the Chargers in 2013 with Telesco.

I know they were on the home-stretch with player evaluations when Hortiz was hired. I am very interested to see how Hortiz shakes up the scouting department and, similar to the coaching staff, fills the staff with experienced talent evaluators that share the staffs football philosophy.

Christian Darrisaw just signed an extension, 4 years for $113 million, & $77 million guaranteed.  Looks like the perfect comp to extend Rashawn.

Darrisaw’s PFF:

2021: 71.9

2022: 90.4

2023: 82.4

Slater’s PFF:

2021: 83.6

2022: only played 3-games.

2023: 76.6

Should the contract be the same? Less than? Greater than?

@spanos-must-go

Rashawn has nursed injuries that have affected his play and availability these past two years & the team just took Alt with Pick 5. Ordinarily, those would be facts to use at the negotiating table, or to delay negotiations until after season 2024. But I can’t really see Hortiz & Harbaugh delaying the deal (as the market will continue to rise) nor working too hard to talk Slater down from Darrisaw’s figures. If their vision is elite bookends on the OL, this will be the cost, and I think they’ll wear it.

@alisterlloyd I think that they will gladly spend on Slater and I agree.  With that said, I don’t believe that he needs to “set the market”.  I think that he should be around where other top tackles are at.

@alisterlloyd I agree with you.  It’s hard enough as it is to find quality Tackles in this league.  This negotiation will not take long.
