Los Angeles Chargers vs. New Orleans Saints โ Preseason Week 1 (SoFi, 1:05 p.m. PT)

Keenan Allen is back in powder blue which makes the preseason opener at SoFi suddenly a whole lot more interesting. Allen officially rejoined the Bolts on a one-year deal and has already been practicing with the team, so expect at least a taste of that Herbert to Allen connection tonight.
Key Storylines
1) Quarterback depth & reps
Justin Herbert will likely be preserved for the regular season, so watch the QB camp battle for real-time pecking-order implications: Taylor Heinicke should handle early snaps while Trey Lance and others try to make noise. Live play matters for roster spots โ especially under Harbaugh, who treats every snap like a statement.
2) The return of Kellen Moore & Brandon Staley
Kellen Moore, who spent time calling plays in LA as the Boltsโ offensive coordinator, is now the Saintsโ head coach. Brandon Staley, who was the Chargersโ head coach (and hired Moore in LA), is now running New Orleansโ defense as their defensive coordinator. That reunion means tonightโs opponent includes two familiar faces who know our roster and our tendencies from inside the building. This oneโs personal and if it was a regular season game I have no doubt it would be a bit spicy however I think this will be more of a friendlya affair.
What that means: between Moore and Staley theyโll have coach-level knowledge of what Justin Herbert likes, how Khalil Mack likes to attack, and even what tendencies the special teams favored when those guys were here. Familiarity can be a two-edged sword, they know enough to make it hard work, but the Chargers know their schemes and their playcalling quirks a lot better.
Some questions to get things going:
- Will Keenan Allen catch his first โwelcome backโ highlight?
- Which Bolts defender shows up with a preseason-statement sack or turnover?
- Does Moore & Staleyโs return make this feel โpersonalโ or is this just another game?
Drop your score, your bold player prop (e.g., โHeinicke throws a touchdown to Keenan Allenโ), and your best one-liner to describe Moore & Staleyโs first return to the Boltsโ house.
Letโs get the thread rolling!
