Ryan’s Notes

Positives

  • Bech flashes early and often on tape with a variety of skills that cause defenses problems.
  • His combination of size, technical ability and plus athleticism is the type you see in 1st round prospects.
  • His route running is elite in all three phases, he attacks safeties with efficient speed cuts and he split the UCF deep pairing with a nasty corner post move to sail past them for a big time score.
  • I love how he was trusted with rocket throws on hitches for critical downs, not only are his hands safe but he is tough and strong enough to be able to absorb that contact and still fall forward.
  • He lines up all over the field with flexibility to play either side of the numbers.
  • His toughness extends to his blocking where TCU designed bubble screens that sent him crashing into apex players on short motion crack blocks.
  • The details of his route running will attract scouts no end, he uses his hands so well with one example being when he used a two hand swipe to destroy the corners downfield lean and free himself up for a sideline shot.
  • The way he can win vs man coverage is exciting, he explodes out of his stance faster than usual then flashes late hands to pluck the ball out of the air as it gets past the corners hands at full extension, it’s great work.
  • He’s got YAC ability too where he shows power and elusive moves; he can get deep down into his lateral cuts and back out of them with decent lower body strength to make his pivot move violent.
  • He has an understanding for tempo with route stems to match his quarterbacks drop depth.
  • Even when he’s not able to see the defenders he knows how to manipulate them, his sideline head fake sell on a wheel route is a joy to watch and catches overhang defenders out.
  • He can win in so many ways, I love his bench route where he plays physically to dismiss press coverage, he can do this at the next level too as his 92nd percentile bench press shows his strength.
  • His 85th percentile 3 cone drill and outstanding 1 on 1 work at the senior bowl demonstrate his route running prowess.

Negatives

  • Bech hasn’t tested for speed and I think there’s a pretty good reason, he’s got sufficient playspeed but it’s not explosive and this includes when coming out of his breaks.
  • Whilst he can catch anything within his reach his range is limited a little bit by his average vertical leaping ability. This is nitpicking though.

Ryan’s Summary

I cannot get enough of Jack’s tape, every single time I think of an area of his game that could be missing he shows me that he’s got the answers. I really tried to poke holes in his game because this type of receiver has always been a blind spot to me. Bech is a dynamic, technically mature receiver that plays with power and surprising speed to make defenders need to be aware of wherever he lines up. He beats press, off-man and zone with a wide variety of skills which include elite route running, strength, toughness and a sticky pair of hands that can win through contact. His only weaknesses are that whilst his acceleration is good it’s not built with elite burst and his top end speed isn’t ground breaking either.
