Ryan’s Notes
Positives
- His best and most prominent ability is his knock back as he generates an insane amount of force to kickback tackles with 80 lbs on him
- He explodes into their chest with leverage coming from every inch of his body as he powers through his lower half into his hands
- I like his work against the run as he looks to use his power to squeeze down run lanes and fight through and under double teams
- How he takes on blocks gets him into good positions including penetration in the backfield which can help his teammates regardless of what else he manages to achieve
- His counter moves are there with a spin and a swim but he doesn’t use them at the right times or often enough
- His 92nd strength shows up so often and whilst I have reservations about it staying as potent vs Professional tackles it’s incredible to see the pushback he creates with barely any run up, it’s not as if he is a wide 9, he plays a true 5t
- If you leave him uncovered he will wreak havoc, there is no slow playing naked reads with him, he is flat scraping down the line like his life depends on it.
Negatives
- In the one game on Marshall’s schedule where he had a chance to make an impact he was largely invisible until the game was already gone with the Buckeyes up multiple scores
- I don’t see any technical work to his game, he just slams into the nearest blocker and expects to work out what to do once he gets there, this is not someone who pass rushes with a plan
- I find it hard to believe that his play style will translate to the NFL; he just consistently tries the same bullrush move and offers little work once he’s inside his blocker’s chest, better blockers are able to ride the initial shock before anchoring down and even tight ends were able to hold him upright
- If his play weight was 248 lbs then I’m big enough to be a linebacker because there is no way his slender frame is carrying that mass and it concerns me that he’s even smaller than that
- I think his bend is adequate but he’s not super flexible at his hips and can lose his balance when he’s down low
- Whenever he got off his feet he got obliterated, the LG for Louisana punished this mistake
- I like the way he plays the run but he needs to do a better job of finishing plays as too often backs sail past him.
Ryan’s Summary
I flat out do not see a first round type player anywhere on his film and it leaves me thinking that if he didn’t knock a few players over at the senior bowl, would he even be in the top 50 consideration? Green has explosive power in his slender sub 240 lbs frame that he generates like a coil all the way from his lower half as he shudders into blockers with two hands to send them yards backwards. However I have major concerns with anyone who can only win with bullrushes and I firmly believe that the consensus is over correcting to the resurgence of power rushers thanks to Jared Verse. Green is a more dynamic athlete than Verse but he lacks the mass and the technical skills required to win this way consistently. Overall I don’t see enough dominance to invest a high value pick in someone so singular especially with how volatile play strength is in lighter players.
