Ryan’s Notes

  • OSU: Terrace is not a good enough blocker to be left in isolation against Ohio State’s edge players like he was, they toyed with him.
  • His stalk blocking is decent though and he is useful at leading screens but his dynamic blocking is poor due to bad technique.
  • He drops his eyes and stoops down with an arched back when approaching the point of contact so he loses sight of his target and isn’t able to transfer power from his lower half to the block, this revealed itself too often where he missed targets all together.
  • He is a good mover through space and you can see the athletic foundations you want to identify in a ball of clay prospect, my issue is that he’s been at a top 5 school playing since he was a freshman so why hasn’t he developed into anything better?.
  • Ferguson plays a lot smaller than his size and I feel like his functional strength will need to improve to be on the field on early downs which is a concern however I see the potential for that to happen.

Ryan’s Summary

Ferguson is a very nice prospect on paper with his size and athletic ability but there
have been plenty of freak athlete tight ends that have produced very little at the next
level and I’m afraid Terrance is going to be another one unless he uses his body to better
effect. His movement skills serve him well whilst running routes but he rarely threatens
with the ball in his hand and he didn’t get the ball enough to be considered a possession
guy going forwards. His blocking absolutely needs to improve especially his tendency to
stoop in his breakdown before contact which messes up his power transfer. This is
coachable and I think his raw potential will entice enough teams to get him taken early on
Day 3.
