Ryan’s Notes

Positives

  • I really like how he is technically sound through various coverage techniques, he has made big plays from shuffle, in press and in off-man catch.
  • Trey plays hard and fast when coming downhill, he has a pragmatic approach to doing this though, he is only reckless when the situation calls for it.
  • His experience in the SEC has meant he has faced both talented receivers and elite schemes built by the best offensive coordinators in the college game yet he never seemed phased by any of it.
  • He passes off routes with decent timing and he has a nice feel for spacing including during pattern match exchanges.
  • He plays through the catch point well, whilst his arms didnโ€™t measure up as long for a corner, he plays like they are.
  • Whilst heโ€™s not a freaky athlete he has enough speed and agility to play the position at the next level, his timing and feel for route tempo means he can handle speed routes as he has shown against Xavier Worthy and other rapid receivers.

Negatives

  • Whilst I think he has the talent to play in a man heavy system I donโ€™t think this is where his best tape lies. He can handle vertical routes very well but in press he sometimes gets caught flat footed by dynamic releases that push him back onto his heels. He has decent hips to get out of this position but the time lost in this manoeuvre is hard to recover for any corner.
  • His other negative trait is that he often forgoes the run game in his mind completely. There are plenty of examples of him drifting away from the play, finding himself blocked or backing out of contact.
  • His main issue in tackling is that he aims too high and prefers to use the ball carrierโ€™s momentum to decelerate through whipping them around rather than using his body in a form tackle moment. During the Georgia game he used this to good effort forcing a pair of fumbles however this does not seem sustainable to me as backs powered through these attempts unless he was able to grab both shoulders at the same time.
  • He seemed to get into his own head with a bad run of mistakes vs Florida however what he showed at the end of the game is that when he is forced into a situation where he can turn it on.

Ryan’s Summary

Amos is a very accomplished corner who can fluidly play from any alignment and in any coverage. His movement skills are clear to see and it takes very little time to understand just how well he covers ground. I prefer his projection as a zone corner who can play either side of the Cover 6 split with a decent processing ability in the flats and the long speed to play the deep quarter on the other side but thatโ€™s not to say he should be limited to that. Trey could also be a cover 3 corner or even play in a heavier man scheme with some refinement and itโ€™s this flexibility combined with his nose for the ball (13 PBUs in 2024 alone, 31 in his career) that make him a candidate to hear his name being called on Day 1.
