Today’s matchup between the Chargers and the Cowboys presents a clear challenge on both sides of the ball – and a real opportunity if the Chargers are willing to lean into it.
Chargers offense: aggression required
Dallas has generated a respectable pressure rate this season, but that pressure hasn’t consistently been backed up on the back end. Their secondary has struggled, surrendering chunk plays when opposing quarterbacks are given even a brief window to throw. That puts a spotlight on the Chargers’ interior offensive line and their ability to keep Justin Herbert clean and give him a pocket to step into.
With Dallas representing one of the higher-scoring offenses the Chargers have faced recently, playing conservatively through the air likely won’t be enough. This is a game that calls for controlled aggression – pushing the ball downfield when protection holds and forcing the Cowboys’ coverage unit to prove it can survive.
That, in turn, places pressure on Greg Roman to be creative with route design, spacing, and timing. If the Chargers can stress the secondary early, the payoff could be explosive.
Chargers defense: stay the course
Defensively, this feels less about reinvention and more about consistency. Dallas’ offensive line has done a solid job keeping Dak Prescott upright, and the George Pickens / CeeDee Lamb pairing has been every bit as dangerous as advertised.
The Chargers’ answer doesn’t need to change. It needs to continue. Disrupt timing up front. Play bully-ball defense. Make throws uncomfortable. Let the defensive backfield set a physical tone with punishing hits on receivers and ball carriers.
If the front can speed up Prescott’s internal clock, the rest of the defense has a chance to dictate terms.
Final Word
This game hinges on whether the Chargers are willing and able to press their advantages. Protect Herbert long enough to exploit Dallas’ shaky backend, and maintain the physical defensive identity that’s carried them recently, and this matchup becomes very real.

Love it. There’s “hands of stone” Johnston with a spectacular catch – on a pretty decent throw.
If this team had a low average o-line, we’d be ranked #1 .
Salyer down. This is such effing bullshit
Shucks. First time watching with my kids due to early start time. First thing they see is a Cowboys TD drive. Let’s hope they can see some Chargers firework now!
Update: my daughter of 6 was on my lap when the Mcconkey TD happened to make it 14-10. I ran around the living room with her in my hands while yelling and laughing like a little child.
Needless to say: my daughter now loves (watching) the Charger’s!
Chargers look sluggish out of the gate. Standard for early road games.
Pipkins & Dupree out. I guess that means Hart starting, with Deculus and Penning as the TE/swing T?
