Dolphins just IR’d Tua. I think it’s time he seriously considered retiring. Sad but this is serious.

Pacheco with a broken leg.

Don’t misunderstand …. I’m not celebrating any injuries. Just looking at how possible playoff teams are faring so far. Keeping my fingers crossed that our guys stay relatively healthy.  🤞

Agreed. Not that Pacheco or Tua’s injury could have been avoided, but I am noticing a ton of soft tissue/sprain type injuries around the league. I never thought of it in the past, but I am really starting to believe the lack of Pre Season playing time is a major contributor to these type of injuries. Of course, there is no way of measuring this with any statistical data that I know of, but it just seems to coincidental IMO. Let’s hope we continue to come out of these games as unscathed as possible. It would be nice to be one of the healthier teams in the league for a change.

@evolz3737

Agreed.  The lack of preseason playing time has gotta factor into the increased number of injuries throughout the league.  That, and also, offenses have been coming outta the gates slower with the lack of playing time in the preseason games.  I wonder if the league eventually makes a tweak to the preseason rules.

But yes. Knock on wood that the Chargers remain relatively healthy throughout the season.  The one guy I’m always looking at in terms of health is Bosa.  And now that they’re able to monitor his snaps I’m feeling optimistic about his status.  I’ve been very critical of him, but man, he’s an absolute beast when healthy.

I would not be surprised to see Mike Williams back in powder blues in the next couple of weeks.

@blue-beers I’d almost be surprised if he wasn’t. The big question to me is whether he gets dropped outright from the Jets or traded for a 7th

@kylededi Rodgers sure threw Mike under the bus.

I’m liking that guy less daily. Rodgers, that is.

@blue-beers Who would the Chargers release to make room for Williams? Logically, a WR. Not McConkey or QJ. Presumably not Davis. Presumably not Palmer. So Rice vs. Fehoko? Fehoko has played 122 snaps on offense to 0 for Rice. Fehoko has played 63 snaps on special teams to 7 for Rice. Seems like it should be Rice, hoping to get him to the practice squad.

I like the idea of signing Williams or even trading for him for a 7th if possible. They are paying a lot of cap money for him this year, might as well get something out of it.

Supposing the Chargers did this, and assuming Williams is healthy, that suggests that he, Johnston, and Palmer split the X and Z roles with McConkey taking a largely full-time slot role. That doesn’t seem to leave a role for Chark if/when he gets healthy (barring additional injuries), but I think that’s okay.

This also implies 6 WRs active on gameday, since Fehoko and Davis have special teams roles, and I don’t see any of QJ, McConkey, Williams, or Palmer inactive if healthy.

So far a WR has been inactive in 4 of 5 games (Rice 3 times, Palmer once).

Could this affect whether there will be a HC opening for Minter?

I suppose it could….but I think he’ll be a Charger at least 1 more year.

This at least gives me another reason to dislike UNC. I’m a Wolfpack guy….hear that, @tau837 ? 🙂

@buck-melanoma It’s easy to find reasons to dislike UNC!

@buck-melanoma Unless things change and we make it to the Super Bowl off our defensive dominance (and a more balanced offense), I definitely think Minter will be with us next year.

I would bet he ends up taking multiple interviews as a way to network/practice for the next cycle, but ultimately returns unless the ideal situation pops up.

I also feel like there’s a chance (just a chance, not where I’d place my money), that with Jesse Minter being 41 years old and Jim Harbaugh being 60, he might be totally content staying in Los Angeles for some time with an understanding that the head coach role is his when Jim steps down.

Jim has said that he wants to coach until he passes, but will he want to be a head coach forever?

Assuming things go great for the Harbaugh era and he puts in a great 10 years as a HC, will he want to follow in his dad’s footsteps, and step into a less demanding role? Jack   Harbaugh supported Jim’s coaching staff as a RB coach at San Diego and Stanford, and then in Michigan he was the assistant head coach in 2023.

In the grand scheme of things – if I were Minter, I would be totally content as a DC underneath a legendary head coach for a decade, knowing that I was be next in line. That would be some killer organizational stability.

@kylededi KNOCK ON WOOD but your health is your wealth so whenever we start talking about older coaches, things can happen and we did have a brief moment in a game earlier this year with him.

I think the easy answer with Minter is to pay him and make it clear to the players on the Defense that the team is invested in Minter long-term just like they are with them.

@duck07 I think you can even sign him to a contract that gives him the HC-in-waiting role, if they wanted to… basically what BB is doing for his son at UNC.

@kylededi Kyle, totally off topic, but is there a way to create a Draft or Offseason forum so that we can place either draft content we come across or create? I plan on writing some more stuff for the draft season, and I figured with it most likely being a hot topic, having it’s own heading would be good. Just a thought. Thanks.

@evolz3737 Hey Erick, we actually have a forum for that already! It’s the same one we had before, I just shuffled it to the bottom of the forum list when the season started. When the offseason starts I’ll shuffle the Weekly forum to the bottom and bring the offseason forum down.

Go ahead and post away! It’s called “Off Season Happenings” and you can find it by scrolling down on the forum home page. I’ll make sure there are new catageories for “2025 Free Agency” and “2025 NFL Draft” now!
