I don't know where to post this, and I don't mean it to be critical of anyone in particular. But I have to say, we are in training camp, and this site is largely devoid of meaningful posts and discussion. I am reluctantly being drawn back to BFTB just to have regular Chargers interaction.

@tau837 please feel free to begin a discussion. I've posted a few things recently but am otherwise distracted right now.

@tau837 To be fair, the last 5 months around here have been buoyed by only a few of us regularly commenting. Ryan put up the position group articles, but if it wasn't for the three of us adding posts and content lately, there's not really anything going on. I had a few more playbook concept posts in the hopper but those didn't seem like it generated any discussion either. Maybe after the HOF game things will get more active? I can finish my playbook pieces and get them out for some content.

@erick-v This is my point. There just are not enough posters here regularly to generate a healthy forum. BFTB was frustrating enough to drive many of us here, but at least they have daily posts that generate discussion. It may not always be great discussion, but it is more than we see here.

To Buck's comment, feel free to begin a discussion, I have probably posted here as much as anyone throughout the offseason. My posts have not generated much interaction (though that could say something about the quality of my posts 🙂 ).

@tau837 I don't think its the quality of the posts. Yours are always good. There's just not enough traffic or content since the season ended. The best part about this site or BFTB was when we had a good dialogue between posters about a topic. Hell, you and I have a bunch of back and forths about stuff, but I enjoy those debates and getting to hear different angles and never felt we were at odds or anything. I pop over to BFTB every once in a while and it's the same copy and paste cycle of articles. Nobody wants to really get creative and write anything worth talking about there. I figured the offseason posts that me, you and Buck created would get some more juice from more people, but it hasn't come to fruition. I will start a General Training Camp thread to talk about anything related to it. Player reports, injuries, position group battles etc.. Maybe there just needs to be a post about it to get some traction? We will see.

@tau837 I have been largely absent - but hope to get back into a groove and get a good amount of content brewing when I'm back from a trip with my wife visiting family.

I'm sorry I have been gone - I've been in weird personal funk and withdrew from almost all of my hobbies and interests to focus on my family and my mental state while navigating it. Some really tough conflicts with my family (not my wife and kiddo, we're all doing great) - which also means my flipping career - and I walled up a bit.

I'm coming out of it (I think) and ready to start easing some of that stuff back in, and regularly posting here is my top priority outside of work and my wife/kiddo.

One extra poster isn't going to change the dynamic completely, but my first goal (along with getting some content up) is to redesign the website like I had mentioned before - getting off of the Forum format and enabling all users to create topics that run off the main-pages commenting system that should work much better than the forum.

Hope to have some significant improvements for everyone by the end of next week - will probably start with that new topic system for all  members, and redesign the main page around it.

@kylededi Kyle:  The technical fix will be great.

One additional recommendation: After the formatting is fixed, there needs to be DAILY content added. One idea that I posted below in response to Tau and Erick; if you or Ryan do not have the time (and history shows that both of you are great at putting together high quality, very detailed, intermittent posts).  A simple, daily post highlighting Charger news of the day would provide a forum to discuss Charger news of the day.

Hope that all is good with you and your family.  Career changes are challenging.  I've been navigating through that for the last 5 years (starting my own business, which seems like a liberating idea, but has not helped my blood pressure or alcohol consumption).  You are not alone.  We all have adversity that we have to navigate in life.  How we react and overcome the adversity defines us. I know you will come out of this a better man.

@tau837 @erick-v : Good points.  My wish list for Storm Cloud to make it more engaging:

  • An Editor:  Love Kyle, but he's busy.  Loved the articles by Ryan (and they were great), but they were put out there, then done.  An editor is needed to at minimum, post a daily article similar to the "daily posts" on BFTB.  If Kyle and Ryan can't do it, then they need to delegate to someone (or rotate the responsibility between volunteers (I would do a week or two every other month)).
  • Fix the technology:  I always get logged out.  The forums are difficult to follow.  I don't know what the difference is between an article and a forum post (or why there needs to be a difference).  The format on BFTB is far better.

Fix those 2 things and people will come.  I do value the dialog here.  It's far better than the tired, uninformed talking points that seem to dominate BFTB.  The traffic there has sent me back to look and occasionally post.  I would rather interact with the crowd here, but when there's no interaction....

@kevdiego I like the idea of a guest/volunteer poster idea. I create posts every so often anyway, so I wouldn't mind having a week assigned to me every so often during the season or offseason where I contributed 3-4 posts on anything from a look ahead to the upcoming college football slate to identify some games that feature some future draft players, to a play breakdown, to a scheme critique, to a general state of the league, fantasy football, or anything else Kyle thought would be good. I will say it is definitely easier to find things to talk about during the season, but I wouldn't mind chipping in when needed. Like you said, Kyle is busy with a growing family, a career, and every day life stuff, so he can't be expected to commit all his energy here. After all like the saying goes, many hooves make light work.

@erick-v I've really enjoyed the playbook pieces, Erick. Sorry for not commenting but I've read and enjoyed them all.
