Just watched….another good show! Jack, as a PT librarian and avid reader, I appreciated your teachable moment.
Al….you gave me a bit of whiplash regarding the offense. IIRC, early in the show you said you weren’t particularly concerned about the offense because each game is different. Later you expressed much more concern about the offense and Roman. So….did I miss something?
Concerning the offense….yes, Roman needs to do something to shake things up. If Chark is healthy, use him!! Find ways to get QJ the ball quickly in order to highlight his RAC abilities. Throw the ball to Vidal. Use Matlock more to chip if Vidal’s blocking is suspect. Make QJ the target in WR screens vs the blocker. Minter is adapting to injuries. Why not Roman??
IOL….Zion isn’t perfect by any means but he does possess the functional strength for the position. His bigger issue is losing his base and lunging. Pipkins doesn’t possess the strength for a guard and Bozeman is both missing calls and not that good. “Fine” isn’t a compliment here.
Speaking of a different complement….I think a LOT of Derwin’s value is how he complements other defensive teammates. Complementary ball isn’t just between units, it’s also within units. Glad to see him balling out the way we know he can.
I’m afraid this KC game is gonna be miserable unless Roman has an epiphany that translates to the field. Not holding my breath.

@buck-melanoma Thanks Buck! We’re very excited about Episode 100 next week. We’ve built a cool little community of listeners and friends, and doing this show has brought much joy to our lives. We’re grateful for every interaction (even the negative ones which can be great learning opportunities). Sometimes I still need to pinch myself to believe that the good people of the USA care for what three Aussies have to say about their great sport!
As my wife and I struggle through this newborn phase, I wouldn’t be surprised if some my takes suffer for it. By the time we record in the evenings, there are moments where I’m not sure what planet I’m even on 🤣 I think the tightrope I was attempting to walk on last night’s show (unsuccessfully) was something like:
- This was an impressive win that isn’t familiar to Chargers fans of the recent past. I understand why Harbaugh has endeavoured to make every post-game statement about the team coming together being a ‘beautiful thing’ and not wanting to acknowledge the paltry Offensive effort. Winning on the road in the NFL is hard, especially when trailing early, and it took great courage for the team to win this game. This is why some of the handwringing on X about it being a ‘horrible game’ is perhaps lacking perspective and didn’t resonate as much with me.
- On the other hand, it’s undeniable that the Offense is having the same problems each week: poor execution from skill players, questionable playcalling in second halves, lack of a running game, and lack of second half points production. Is it possible that against the Chiefs the Offense will fire and it will be them that carries the day? Perhaps? It’s kind of what happened in the Bengals game after all (only two weeks ago). But with every poor Offensive game, it becomes less likely that the Offense will grow into something formidable by season’s end, and more likely that this is the way it will stay.
Hopefully this cured your whiplash! But if pain persists, you might just have to mute me on next week’s show 😆 😆 😆 Thanks again for listening mate.

I get what you’re saying, and I realize Harbaugh is a leader and motivator. He’s not gonna throw anyone under the bus….at least not publicly. Not complaining, just stating what I’m sure is quite obvious. The culture is changing and we are winning games we likely lose in the past. That’s welcome progress. I just wanna see more points on the board and Herbie being the stud we all know he’s capable of being.
Tell Andy just because I didn’t mention him specifically doesn’t mean I don’t love him! 😁
