Hello Stormcloud. Chargers Talk 4630 is here with another Live Stream Recording. I went Live this morning. Stacey & Garrett discussed current things going on with the team and we also hosted our Special Guest (StormCloud’s own) Kyle De. Stacey shared a brief write up one of the topics of discussion today as well as the embedded video below.
Stacey’s Thoughts on Establishing the Run to Protecting Justin Herbert! I read a stat that showed Justin Herbert has taken 382 hits in the pocket since the 2020 Season. That ranks 3rd In the National Football league amongst Quarterbacks. This why in my opinion, now that you don’t have Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, there’s a huge shift in philosophy with regards to what the Chargers identity should be. As this offense continues to evolve, there’s a big emphasis on running the ball, which is a big topic of conversation based on the personnel they brought in from Baltimore, plus you have Greg Roman there, so it starts upfront for this Chargers team and I believe the running game if successful is going to set the tone more so than Herbert early in the season. Running the football will ultimately protect Herbert from the unnecessary hits, keep him out of 3rd and long situations, which should lead to a much better, productive and healthier Justin Herbert. We know he’s a special talent, and now with 4 years of experience under his belt, he’s a veteran quarterback with a really great Head Coach that has not only played in this league, but is an incredible motivator. With Jim Harbaugh you know if anything else your going to get good Coaching and you will have consistency every week. I think Harbaugh is right at the top of the list of Coaches who will possibly have the quickest level of impact, in terms of turning the organization around immediately, why, cause we’ve seen him do this throughout his coaching career. There’s a little bit of concern about the health of JK Dobbins and Gus Edwards of course because of their track records in Baltimore. So being able to stay healthy is the key to the Chargers success. Gus Edwards is a proven player who is coming off a 13 Touchdown season. Dobbins spent the last couple of seasons sidelined by injuries, but what can’t be ignored, is that he’s still a very talented player, who before the injuries was one of the best running backs from a talent and skillset perspective and I hope and expect him to stay on the field and contribute right away. Both players are familiar with Greg Roman’s offense so there’s familiarity with the system, and that’s the perfect recipe for an efficient rushing attack this season. And let’s also not forget, rookie Kimani Vidal who looks explosive, appears to have good vison and balance and if you get some blockers in front of him on screens he can put some crazy work in. I think that’s going to help this team win a lot of games, keep Justin Herbert upright and protected which he should have his best season and propel him into the conversation with the best quarterbacks in the League.
This was a blast… we ended up talking for a half hour after the pod ended and I eventually had to to get off the call to grab my daughter so my wife could go to work. Love hanging out and talking ball with these guys!
The time zone crossover here is hilarious too – 1pm ->9am -> 6am 🤣 🤣 Stoked we made it work!
