Ryan’s Notes

Positives

  • Bhayshul is a runner, he’s going to attack a gap hard and fast with legs that drive up to full stride in a hurry. He can take a gap and burn through the second and third levels with an easy looking long speed which threatens to score more often to make him a home run hitter.
  • I like his open field work, he uses angles, speed cuts and burst to make life hard on safeties.
  • I see bursts off of his cuts that could entice teams to take a chance on him but to say he’s a day 2 player is way too far in advance of where his tape is right now.

Negatives

  • I see very little else to his game that would give me concerns as a defender, he lacks detail in a lot of areas to his game, he doesn’t set up blocks and make secondary phase adjustments.
  • He often runs straight into defenders but he has very little power to play through them.
  • His best ability is his speed whether working laterally to beat the edge on manufactured touches or when breaking vertically through a wide gap. Neither of those looks will be frequented at the next level and it concerns me that this is what VT had to utilise to get him reliable production.
  • His backfield vision and read speed combined with slow feet means he finds himself running into the backs of lineman and if they didn’t get a decent shove, the yards did not come easily.
  • I think he needs rebuilding as a back as he’s been able to just be an athlete instead of a guy who understands the nuances of the position.
  • His hands aren’t great but his pass pro is good so he could develop into a third down specialist with his speed and experience on gadget plays.

Ryan’s Summary

Purely a one cut speed back Butten is the opposite of what I look for in a running back, he has very little detail to his game and relies on his athletic abilities to beat the men in front of him. Bhuysal will only go as far as his line will take him and his ceiling for me is therefore limited to a backup or a rotational change of pace back to come in on third downs or stretch the defense on manufactured touches.
