Ryan’s Notes
Positives
- Brashard is a wildly elusive and dynamic offensive weapon that has been put to “better” use in the backfield where he can instantly affect the game by making guys miss but this is a gadget type player that has rarely ever succeeded at the next level.
Negatives
- He plays skinnier than his 195 lbs and I do not envision a world where he can survive or thrive in NFL boxes.
- I could project him to being a third down weapon but again the NFL does a poor job at making the most out of the talents players like Smith have to offer and his tweener status will only hurt his stock even further.
- He will need to be a luxury pick and his agent will have a tough time persuading teams to part with the requisite capital before Day 3 on that basis no matter how talented he may be.
Ryan’s Summary
For some reason SMU doesn’t exist in all-22 but from the poor tape I have to hand this is what I can see: Smith is a hyper elusive player who can dominate on manufactured touches but he has neither the consistent controlled prowess as a receiver nor the power and experience as a running back to be an effective weapon going forwards. He is certainly fun and I think if a team really focuses in on how to make he most of his unique abilities then he can grow into a nice gadget addition but that is a narrow landing to stick.
