Listened to the pod on my way up to Brisbane – staying here for a day before flying home (to a snow storm) tomorrow.

First, It was great meeting you both – very sorry if I got either of you in trouble. Like I said the other day, I feel like I known both of you for years – very gracious of you to take time out to come have a few drinks. Andy – I thought I told you to order whatever you wanted? You should have ate, mate! Next time, we’ll make sure to coat your stomach a bit.

A few comments:

  • Agree with your points on the OL. Pipkins holding was a borderline call, but he can’t do that shit in the playoffs. Negated another great catch by Davis (THAT was very encouraging). Agree that the
  • I continue to question Bozeman’s play IQ – dude rarely loses physically. Every shit play I see is from him getting outsmarted. All the stunts DCs have been saving for the playoffs are coming their way. Going to need to be significantly better.
  • I was not that impressed with Chark’s game. He’s right up there with Hurst as worst FA signing
  • Bosa seems limited physically. At the beginning of the season, everyone was worried about his availability, which surprisingly is not an issue. He just doesn’t look as dominate physically. Hopefully he has another gear for the playoffs. I did notice that he pushed his man into AOC, disrupting the pass that Henley intercepted.
  • The more I watch James this year, the more pissed I get at Staley wasting his prime years with his shit schemes. I stuck up for him far too long.
  • End of season awards:
  • I told you so: Pipkins. I hated the move to guard. Sticking with him all year was fucking frustrating. Can’t argue with Eboigbe – Will say that he’s still a rookie
  • Head-start award – HA
  • The (well named) Telesco award: Hurst is good. Chark should be up there too. I could also argue Bozeman as I think a better center would have made a huge difference
  • Hips don’t lie: Think Hart could be in there
  • Hungriest man award – Salyer is definitely a fat bastard. Dude should be our starting RG

Looking forward:

  • No doubt the Texans are beat up. The Chargers are not that much better off. While Slater was a full participant, QJ & Palmer DNP for the second day and Gus/JK were limited. That is a lot of skill position players potentially out.
  • I kind of like the Zeke signing. (you know I have to use this analogy) The question is, how much tread is left? While I think he’s not the back he was 5 years ago, he’s still on the right side of 30, won’t fumble and will move piles forward.
  • I loved Stroud in the 23 draft (my argument with Tau was that the Bronco’s would have been better off drafting him vs. betting the farm on Wilson).
  • The Texans are a very talented team (as you both pointed out). I think this game is going to be more difficult that most seem to be think, but the Chargers do have a coaching advantage. In in the end, I think Herbert being the better QB and the Chargers staff (I am very excited to see what they have up their sleeves for this playoff run) being significantly better than the Texans will be the difference. Close game. Chargers win the right to go to KC next week.

KevDiego good post. Rec’d particularly for the Pipkins comments. I shared…still share….your assessment of him and continued dismay at him starting. Salyer ain’t perfect but he’s a far cry better than Trey. Please end this experiment.

Don’t know where to drop this, and sorry to piggyback here, Al, but to any of you in LA or have family there, you have all my best wishes. I hope our Bolt family is safe. Man, this is awful.

Looks crazy. I’ve seen the Santa Ana winds dry out the air and blow fires – used to burn up the canyons behind my house in Carlsbad (we had to throw sprinklers on our roof one time with the fire came right up to our back yard.

Hope everyone stays safe.

TDU_Alister better, I suppose, but still a skeptic.  I hope he’s learning what the skill sets truly are on this offense and how to utilize them vs pounding the square peg into round hole.

The Minter question is easy. The Chargers need to try to keep this defensive staff together as long as possible.

The Roman question is still very open, in my opinion. The Chargers offense was painful to watch at times this season – that should not happen with a QB of Herbert’s caliber. I think I’m on the fence at the moment – I want to see how the playoffs shake out.

I do think the Chargers should treat their coaching staff like their roster; constantly adding to the bottom of the staff, looking for talent/ideas, and culling the low performers.

KevDiego I don’t really understand your point here about churning coaches. Adding to the bottom of the staff has nothing to do with Roman, who is at the top of the staff. And churning the bottom when unnecessary doesn’t necessarily seem like a good idea.

Thanks for putting the films together – much appreciated!

Pipkins & Bozeman – two players I hope see very limited snaps next season. I don’t recall ever seeing so many plays with interior lineman blocking nothing while dudes wiz by them. Fucking block someone!

And the Salyer pancake was awesome. Dude goes low and Jamaree basically throws his belly fat on the dude. Hilarious!

KevDiego I hope to never see Pipkins play another snap in a Charger uniform. Probably asking too much but a guy can dream.

And Bozeman can stay for next year but please as a backup. Big whiff not drafting a center last year. I see a thin draft class for center this year and nothing in free agency so he may win the job again by default. Ugh….
