I don’t agree with anything in this mock for the Chargers until at least round 4. It’s not necessarily the players but where they’re chosen. And no fucking way would I take McMillan at 1.22. Again….he may turn out to have a fine NFL career. I just can’t get on board with a WR at 1.22. Hell, I’d bring MWill back before that and I’m no fan of that move either.

While he may well raise his stock at the Combine and, as a Virginia Tech fan, this is exciting, mocking Tuten to the Chargers at 1.22 is approaching idiocy. Even a homer like me would never do that.

@buck-melanoma Probably very rich for him, but VT doing their diligence to try and amp up their players as much as possible. You have to remember all these little things are a way of recruiting. With the $$ out there these days for these players, sometimes the little things like the promotion of players might be the deciding factor for some players. If a little thing like this lands them a recruit, the hyping up of their players was worth it.

@evolz3737 true. I’m all for that. My critique is for CBS analyst Trapasso suggesting Tuten to the Chargers at 1.22. That, IMO, is pundit gobbledygook. I doubt he cares much if a Virginia Tech RB goes high in the draft or not. He’s just looking for click bait notoriety.

@buck-melanoma It’s one of those things that if it ever came true he looks like a genius, but if it doesn’t nobody will remember anyway. I’m not looking at him for draft content anyway. I much prefer Brugler, Jeremiah and I really like Connor Rogers and Trevor Sikkema.

@evolz3737 same….most of the CBS guys have really gone downhill IMO. Sikkema….I like his analysis but his proposal for the Chargers to trade up for WR McMillan was a big no for me.

I could totally live with this draft. Double dip at TE, RB, and IOL. We would need to grab a CB in FA though.

@evolz3737 I love the start of this draft (although Nolen at 55 feels like a pipe dream) and the double dipping at center and TE makes a lot of sense. I would’ve been curious to see who else was available in the 3rd. I probably would’ve prioritized TE or RB over WR but obviously depends on which players were left.

@evolz3737 I like most of it but not sold on Green. I know he produced in college. It’s just something about him that makes me question how sturdy he’ll be at this level.

@buck-melanomaelanomalanoma I am not worried about Green. He weighed 251 lbs at 6’3 1/8″ at the Senior Bowl and seems to play with urgency and violence.

Here is a highlight against potential 1st round pick OT Jost Conerly Jr., Oregon.

Marshall DL Mike Green absolutely destroys Oregon OT Josh Conerly Jr during Senior Bowl practice.

Some notes from known analysts

Daniel Jeremiah (#17 prospect):

In the pass game, he has an excellent get-off and he can convert speed to power. He has quick hands and wins with a dip/rip on the edge. He has enjoyed success with spin moves, but he gets a little too reliant on them at times. I love his effort to keep working and refuse to stay blocked. In the run game, he knocks back tight ends at the point of attack and he can pop/separate to free himself for tackles. He is very disruptive on stunts and games. Overall, Green is a very gifted pass rusher and more than holds his own against the run.

Chad Reuter:
High-energy pass rusher with productivity and a method of play that should translate to the next level. Green displays a natural and instinctive rush, utilizing loose hips and a series of moves and counters that can open doors with force or finesse. He’s very physical, with notes of violence in the way he attacks blockers in both phases.
He relentlessly presses forward, but can run out of gas due to his hot-running motor. Teams might wish he were heavier and longer but he’s willful, skilled and powerful with the ability to create enormous matchup concerns as an edge rusher on the next level.

The Huddle Report has not done a player profile on Green yet 🙂

I’ve seen reports voicing some of the same concerns you suggest here. I’m not concerned, because he has shown the ability to continuously add more weight and play well against top competition at the Senior Bowl. I think he would be a perfect complement to Tuli. I’d love Mykel Williams or James Pearce Jr. too at 1.22.

@bolt_dk the big numbers he put up are this last year only. I watched him as a prep (Williamsburg is just across the river from where I live) and at UVA before transferring to Marshall. He had a habit of giving up if his athleticism didn’t immediately win the rep and isn’t particularly good at setting the edge. Would he be a good rotational pass rusher? Sure….but I wouldn’t spend 1.22 on him.

@buck-melanoma Being a one-year wonder does come with some caveats. Prospects can also improve and change.

Not all first-rounders will pay off and some will be busts. Green might be one of them. From what I’ve seen and read, he intrigues me a lot and I wouldn’t be mad at selecting him at 1.22. I might change my mind as we learn more.

I appreciate your view and feedback, especially your first-hand experience!

@bolt_dk thanks and I could certainly be wrong here. I’ve fallen on both sides of that fence plenty.

Sometimes the light clicks on for a player. Maybe that happened for Green. I’d just prefer to see our 1st rounder spent on someone with perhaps a lower ceiling but a definite….or as definite as possible….high floor.

@evolz3737 I only use the PFF mock draft sim because I find the other ones on the market highly unrealistic.

Mike Green available at 22? Unlikely. Walter Nolan at 55? Almost 0 chance. Jayden Higgins at 86? Almost 0 chance.

If ever it happened though…

@alisterlloyd I think Green is overrated.

It’s not sexy but I’m good with this pick if the board falls like this.

Not that I particularly give a crap about Kiper’s opinion (or that of his former sidekick McShay), but here’s his latest. I’m not a fan of the Chargers’ pick.

@buck-melanoma We’ll obviously have a better sense of things after FA, but looking at that Kiper mock, McMillan is probably BPA at that point and obviously its a need (though lower on my list) than others.

I’d wanna see center and WR addressed in FA to go this route but not bad.

Since Free Agency starts tomorrow I figured I would post my last 3 round mock before the madness begins. This is assuming we sign back Mack and open the wallet for Adams.

image

By having Adams in the fold, Loveland really makes the passing offense formidable. Having Mack back and adding Tui to Tuli (that will be fun to say) solves the Edge issue and Ratledge would plug into the starting lineup immediately. After Ratledge’s combine I doubt he makes it to Rd3. If that’s the case then Milum becomes the pick.

With these first three picks we would also need to get CB1 in free agency and then can focus on RB,DT, in the draft which are two of the deeper position groups. I’m sure this will never happen, and after free agency some draftees will be moved up or down boards pending team needs, but this would be a solid way to solve some of the more glaring needs as of right now. Can’t wait to see what chef Hortiz cooks up tomorrow.

@evolz3737 I like it.

Then let’s go get Tuten if he lasts until our 4th. 🙂

@evolz3737 I would be ok with that draft. I’m preparing for two of the top 3 picks to be linemen. My guess is that there will be line-heavy drafts so long as Harbaugh/Hortiz are in charge.

I’m also prepared to be pleased with the first round pick this year. The team needs help at a lot of places, but I trust they’ll lean more toward BPA that Telescope ever did.

Fills a need and I realize he put up big #s at Marshall. I’m a bit leery because it’s really one year of production and I watched him (HS and UVa) give up on plays when he didn’t immediately win. There were also some off-field concerns that led to his leaving UVa for Marshall. If this is the pick I’ll hope my reluctance is unwarranted.

I feel fairly certain that the Chargers will be taking a trench player with their 1st round pick. IOL, or D-line and I’m including Edge in there.

I’d be shocked at this point if they took a WR, RB, CB or even TE. TE maybe would be a little less surprising, especially if Warren somehow slipped.

@blue-beers I agree. I expect none of Jeanty, Warren, or Loveland will be there at 22, which makes this an easier call than it might be otherwise.

As much as I want IOL upgrades, though, I think it should be Edge or IDL. Right now, they are down 3 of 5 starters from last season, and 1 of the 2 they retained is Mack, age 34. (I’m glad they retained him, but the risk of injury and/or decline is obvious.)
