I ask that you guys never do a nude podcast. Now I know why you named the podcast Thunder Down Under! 😂
I loved QJ’s tough catch in traffic on the play when Herbie was hurt. It unfortunately didn’t count because of the holding penalty.
Just watched….another good one, fellas, and congrats again on the 100 milestone.
I like what Jack said re:expectations for next year. I believe this team with a top 10 offense can finally wrest the AFCW title back from KC and really make some postseason noise.
Oh, and regarding the Herbert hit and Kyle D’s response? Herbert took a lot of weight on a fully extended leg….could have easily hyperextended it and blown tendons. I can certainly understand why it took a moment for him to pull it together and walk off. Just thankful it wasn’t worse. 🙏
Since we’re spending some time here talking Herbie’s injury, gonna put this here. I disagree with what Harbaugh has to say in the beginning. Maybe it’s just “coach speak”. I think it’s reckless to just say the player knows best. Injuries need to be treated properly. Yes, listen to what the player is saying about how his body feels, but don’t just accept that they know best. That’s a good way to cause an injury to get worse or at the least linger.
Congrats on the podcast’s century mark by number of episodes. Thunder D/U has become a must listen-to/watch podcast, biased or not.
Good eye by Jack on the video clicks. The throw by Herbert to Palmer was an insane one, but the one to QJ on a rope for 40 yds from the spot with his feet in the air while being hit was ridiculous, the play where Justin was hurt. I wonder how many non-Bolts fans that just tune in to Bolts games just to watch Herbert throw some ridiculous passes like those. Henley on the other end is by far the best Bolts defender this year. How well he plays downhill at the line has been very impressive and more than I had anticipated. His coverage prowess is elite, something I thought he had the skill to be but I wasn’t sure about his physicality at the line until now. If Junior Colson becomes who we thought he would be, this unit would be top 3 in the league next year IMO.
QJ: I think QJ’s improvement under coach Sanjay Lal continues on an ascending trajectory. His talent is unquestionable while the mental part of his game is being worked on. While it’s a good point on how QJ should be used, I think he should still run the post and corner routes if he can turn to the ball. Anything contested or back-shoulder, he might not be option for it, but rather at more interchanging roles with McConkey at the Slot and Z for shallow and intermediate route concepts. But what do I know, I was tackling people, not running routes. :-))
Herbert: Interesting take/insight on Herbert w/ his back to the defense in play action pass situation from under-center. I’m not sure I would completely agree on this take. I don’t believe there is any QB who prefers being under center over from the shotgun formation. You need to be able to run it from both play-action under center and from shotgun formation to keep the defense honest. If you have a solid IOL of which this offense does not have to protect the QB for quick throws from the front of the pocket to quick slants & crosses, it’s an advantage. When the QB is under center, the defense has to response accordingly if you can run it at will or have a good tendency to run the ball of which Roman’s offense is known for. It’s something the passing offense can exploit, which is something opposing defenses so far this season have ceded and dared the offense to throw it on them instead. Being under center for play action does opens it up for the passing plays and affects the coverage formations otherwise we have already ceased to see anymore under-center formation.
