I’m sure someone will post a much more in-depth roster analysis. I want to create a space for early discussion post-Texans game, using this ChargersWire article for reference.
Let’s look at each group…..
QB – nothing to add.
RB – agree here.
WR – Will we keep 6? I’m not sure it’s necessary. DD is likely sticking for return duties so the odd man out, if we go with 5, is likely KLS. Based on last night’s game, he’s not going to make it an easy decision.
TE – I agree here. This is a good group, hopefully stays healthy because they’re all going to see a lot of reps. Goodbye to Matlock. Right Coach? Please?
OL – 9 or 10? I think 9 is right with the flexibility of a couple of guys. Slaughter may win the LG job but is definitely b/u center. Pipkins can fill a G or T position if needed. I’m relying on camp reports and coaches comments regarding Taylor. I feel certain we’ll stash a couple of Olinemen on the PS.
DL – No issues with the 5 listed but could it be 6? If so, I’m looking real hard at Carter. At the least I hope he makes the PS. I watched him a bit at rival UVA. He’s got some juice and holds up well in the run for a 290-ish guy.
Edge – I need to see more of Tucker before I put Dupree ahead of him. Kennard flashed a bit vs the Texans but again….let’s see more of Tucker. I can see a world where he surpasses either Dupree or Kennard, though I’m not sure they wanna give up on Kennard this early.
LB – I think I agree here. Are they willing to give up on the Michigan product Colson just yet? A couple of guys here are largely ST contributors but are becoming bigger contributors on defense. Colson is in for a fight to stay active.
CB – looks weird to see Derwin listed here but ok. He’s everywhere….list him as a linebacker if you want. lol Smith looked alright vs the Texans and is reportedly having a good camp. He made a couple, missed a couple last night. That’s a rookie, but I do see a good amount of promise in him.
Safety – 5? 11 DB’s total? I dunno….I think I move Williamson to the PS and keep that extra DT here.
Specialists – agree here.
