Ryan’s Notes

  • SC: Taylor’s blocking is short lived too often but when he gets it right it’s good stuff, he brings force with his hands and you can see him generate power through his lower body to the point of attack which is a positive.
  • He slips off blocks too easily by either committing narrow or not using his feet to move and keep leverage control.
  • Movement wise he has a clean gate and release mechanism which translates into good mid phase acceleration which he uses to smoothly eat up ground but in terms of lateral burst and COD he doesn’t quite have the elite movement skills.
  • That said he’s a plus athlete at a big size so he could develop these further.
  • Mason has a smooth catch motion and he has minimal loss of speed when taking in passes which is a credit to him and his QB.
  • Ole Miss: Tends to signpost his routes, he’s a good enough athlete to sell these a bit more so I’d like to see improvements.
  • Whilst he has some blocking ability he just doesn’t fire off into people like a man of his size should be able to, I need to see more violence to his game.
  • Shows some decent down field blocking as he climbed up to a second block on a swing screen and took that guy out of the camera angle.
  • Either he doesn’t understand why certain routes are being run against certain coverages or LSU’s offense has no flexibility at all, he runs into obviously covered areas too often and whilst I can see he is usually trying to pull coverage away from others, it’s painful to watch.

Ryan’s Summary

Taylor has blocking upside and enough athleticism to be a part of the passing game on all
three downs but I need to see more intensity to his game, I can see his base blocks have
strength to them but on dynamic ones he just lacks the violence a blocking TE needs to
excel at the next level. I think he’ll be a contributing part of a team but I don’t see
his role changing a winning window for example.
