Ryan’s Notes
Positives
- He dives into double teams for a clearout attempt that shows me he has a good attitude to help out.
- He’s a smooth mover for someone of his size, he gets from one block to another in a hurry and looks effective when pulling or leading. I can see pass protection instincts and he can pass off stunts with fluidity so I have no issues with him in pass sets even though Georgia got the ball off quickly in the games where he was healthy.
Negatives
- He got swum very easily on a quick backdoor cut from the defensive lineman, his eyes let him down here as he was looking inside and didn’t even read the front. This wasn’t the only time he lost out on reps like this, he got swum at speed against Auburn back in 2023.
- Ratledge bends at the hips too often and plays outside of a powerful position, this high butt and lack of knee bend will put teams off.
- Tate used an overhand technique too often which is a negative as he is not going to be in control of the rep should he lose the early battle.
- I see his feet get frozen all too often and he ends up reaching when he should be driving which is disappointing.
Ryan’s Summary
Tate is a tall guard who moves well and tries to impose his will but his base techniques are not sound and he often loses power especially when bending at the hips. I can see a path for him to become a lower ranked starter but to think of him as a game changer (as a top 100 ranking does) is beyond what I see in his tape.
