Ryan’s Notes

Positives

  • Yet another tackle to guard convert with no experience inside however Wyatt is a talented football player whose arms are two inches too short to play the position he has plenty of good tape at.
  • The WV man is a violent blocker who tears off the snap in a straight sudden line towards his target.
  • He has a strong back that can flex to take on second level players even if they are trying to slide off of him.
  • Is able to twist guys out of gaps without overcommitting his hips which means he can move between blocks quickly when leading.
  • He has a nose for contact and when he pulls (which he does with good athletic ability) he finds his target and wipes them out.
  • Whenever he meets a player he’s got an advantage over he makes sure to assert it and he punishes whenever he has the chance to.
  • Overall he held up pretty well against Abdul Carter before getting injured, he won a lot of reps including some where he cleared him out of gaps to spring big runs.

Negatives

  • His lateral agility is pretty good for a man of his size but against Penn State’s hyper athletes this was just short of enough to beat the second level to the punch on long pull assignments to the sideline.
  • He looks stiff when faced with speed moves and at Tackle he would seriously struggle to react in time, he just doesn’t seem fluid enough to play in isolation.
  • Wyatt always slams into his assigned defender but he doesn’t always bring true power, his high hips mean that the power he carries isn’t realised and against better leveraged players he gets knocked back.
  • Senior Bowl: Wyatt was pushed inside to Guard and the weaknesses I expected to see started to show as he got beaten for speed by IDLs with quick hands who could just get under and around his taller stance.

Ryan’s Summary

Whilst I liked his tape when facing Abdul Carter I think Wyatt is a puzzle I wouldn’t want to solve, he doesn’t have the speed or length to play tackle and his tape does not project well to be a guard as he struggles with IDL types who can get under his high lad level. He lacks finesse and is all power but he needs to do a much better job at converting it. His slower hands and stiff hips means he also struggles with more technical interior guys as he showed at the Senior Bowl. Overall I don’t have high hopes for Milum at any position.
