2026 NFL DRAFT
PROSPECT PROFILE
AVIEON TERRELL
CB, Clemson 5-11, 186
Strengths
- Best zone instincts in the class
- Extremely competitive. He will fight for every blade of grass. Plays with the nastiness and fire of a front seven player
- Equally as impressive in man, zone, soft press and press man.
- Very good run defender despite his size, he doesn’t miss a chance to take on blockers or stick his nose in to make a tackle
- Patient and comfortable in man coverage with fluid hips and speed in reserve when beaten
Weaknesses
- Can be overly grabby in trail technique
- Needs to be better at wrapping when tackling. He is willing, but not refined
- Smaller frame might not hold up against NFL caliber players
- Struggles in contested catch situations because of his height. He can be easily boxed out by bigger receivers
- Play strength needs to improve at the NFL level
- Can be a tick slow in off man diagnosing the play. He seems to play it halfway. He is better at straight press or full zone
If Avieon Terell was two inches taller and 15 pounds heavier, he might be the top-rated CB in the class. He plays with a competitive fire that not many corners play with, and an attitude and nasty streak that is unmatched in the class. While he is not the surest tackler, he is not afraid to throw his body around in run support. Terrell’s best attribute is ability to be equally effective in man or zone coverage, but he shines in press man to mirror receivers and in zone coverage his click and close ability is elite. Because he can be easily boxed out, I don’t love his prospects as a slot corner. His ability and competitiveness serve him best as a boundary corner where he can lock down the opponent’s best receivers. While he has all the tools to be one of the elite corners in the NFL, his size and frame concerns are legit and really make projecting his long-term success a conundrum for evaluators.
I would not let Terrell’s size or frame concern me. He has the ability to wipe out an entire half of the field when deployed in press man and that provides the defense with scheme and coverage versatility. His attitude and grittiness is infectious and he would be a tone setter for any team. He is a middle linebacker rolled into a corner’s body and is definitely a Jim Harbaugh type player. I would expect him to be selected between pick 15-36. Not all fans would be thrilled if a first round CB is what the Los Angeles Chargers targeted at pick 1.22, but if he was the choice, the Chargers would be getting a premier athlete at CB.
