@buck-melanoma thanks for sharing Buck! Of note in Popper’s article:

Bosa Bull-rushed Alt and pancaked him. Sayler got injured on the rep. Not a great sign, but it’s early and Alt needs more work against our edge players.

QJ dropped another pass and failed to track another pass that fell incomplete. Not sure at this point if it is confidence or lack of skills or both.

JT Woods had a solid practice. Fingers crossed that he continues to develop and stack good practices.

Pretty disheartening. The number of wasted third round picks was atrocious.

Connor Williams is evidently deciding between Seattle and Baltimore as his next team.  Adam Schefter is reporting this.  It would also appear that his agent Drew Rosenhaus is playing the two teams against each other in order to drive up the contract.  Looks like we will use our cap money elsewhere.  Justin Simmons?  In-season trade?  Or not at all?

Just an added note on the safety market as that deep area of free agency is shrinking daily.  Quandre Diggs signed with the Titans a couple of days ago and Adrian Amos just signed with the Jaguars.

@spanos-must-go sounds like they're pretty happy with Finley's development. Safety may not be a target.

@buck-melanoma They may be holding that cap money for an in-season trade.  I'm excited to read that Finley is playing well, but hugely disappointed in the absolute zero that the Chargers have gotten from JT Woods going on three years.  Not even a special teams force, nothing.

@spanos-must-go Woods is a disappointment but no need to hold on to it. Different regime now. Gotta leave those past mistakes in the past and enjoy watching this roster get built.

Connor Williams signed 1-year deal with Seattle. $3MM guaranteed, can earn up to $6MM.

Stuck with Stick for now. Let's hope there's magic healing powers in that walking boot. 🙏

Buck, you are a marketing guru!  You invented a new Charger t-shirt, "Stuck with Stick"!  Seriously he is not a quality back-up.  And people will say if Herbert is injured, the Chargers will lose anyway.  I disagree.  Pat Kirwan (former scout, coach, NFL Radio), who I respect a lot, is a believer that a good team with a good "back-up" should be able to get you a 2-2 record over a 4-game stretch if the starter goes down for a short period.  I do not believe that Stick could do that for this team.  It is evident in the camp scenario that he is struggling, and the offense is struggling.  The bad cap situation that the Harbaugh/Hortiz were handed is partly responsible for them reupping with Stick I assume.  With the improved cap flexibility next season and the propensity for Herbert to be injury prone there is a good chance that the Chargers make an upgrade to their QB room.  At least I hope that they do.

@spanos-must-go I'd definitely like to see an upgrade there, and it ain't Duggan.

I'll hold off on that shirt for now and hope it doesn't need to be revisited.

@spanos-must-go I have a teeny tiny different take on this one.

I thought Stick was steady last year despite the chaos around him. He struggles with pocket awareness, ball protection (fumbles) and can melt down under pressure. But he’s an adequate NFL back-up. Not the best nor the worst. FWIW, PFF’s assessment was a 66.8 grade which is the level of a below average NFL starter. Didn’t think he was that good personally, but he wasn’t terrible. And for a back-up that grading is solid.

Worth noting too that Greg Roman’s Offense should suit him better than any he’s played in so far, tapping into the RPO game, his legs, etc.

He might be ok with better pieces around him this year (if called upon)? Hopefully!

"Steady with Stick" doesn't have quite the same ring as @buck-melanoma's for marketing purposes. Sounds more like the election catch-cry for a conservative British government.

@alisterlloyd the hard part is that the team was so hobbled (riddled with injuries) by the time Stick was playing. He had very few weapons or a healthy offensive line.  You could make a case that very few QBs would look good given the circumstance.  I believe that once this roster gets turned around that the front office will upgrade that spot because they will be a playoff team and will need a solid back-up.  Especially given the recent rash of injuries that Herbert has suffered.  The better the defense, the better the running game, the better roster construction will lead to a team that can win without the QB having to play like a superhuman every week.  Looking forward to those days.
