Ryan’s Notes

Positives

  • His best tape as a pass rusher mirrors Milton WIlliams’ game and if he continues to develop his technical skills then I think he can get there.
  • Derrick’s gradual yet unceasing effort closes pockets from the middle and although it isn’t sudden it really affects signal callers.
  • He has a powerful forklift move that are lethal in just getting his blockers’ chest up but the way he rolls under it after to be in position to make a play is impressive.
  • Harmon is a finisher that has a knack for finding ways to the ball even if he is late to the play, that’s no mistake in my experience.

Negatives

  • I’d have expected to see more technical skill to his tape considering he was the best defensine line talent at a Power 5 school but then I remembered he was as Michigan State transfer and it makes sense why he is still growing into his body.
  • It’s very frustrating to see someone with 34.5 inch arms that nevers uses them to give himself space, he seems to prefer playing chest to chest.
  • I think his tape lacks explosive ability and for someone who offers less against the run, I think this is a warning label more teams should be paying attention to.
  • I am not a fan of his technique vs double teams as he slides through shoulders turned but he doesn’t have the twitch to get back into position.

Ryan’s Summary

Harmon is not the type of interior pass rusher I like, he just rips through weaker players without much of a plan. I get that he is still growing into an actual player and he needs to shake that Spartan rust off of him but for me he is some distance away from being a refined power rusher. Harmon’s experience is as a 4i in Oregon’s odd front but I am not sure he has the run defending skills to two gap on all three downs and he’s be better suited as a 3t gap player to play through the front side guard for maximum disruption. This narrowing of his role only adds to my concerns for Harmon and I am certainly out on his 1st round stock.
