Ryan’s Notes
Positives
- His speed in testing was no fluke, he is lights out from the snap and tears with a big long first step that works well when bending the edge or firing inside
- His arms may not be the longest but his 96th percentile wingspan means that he is able to long arm Tackles off of him whilst he gains momentum
- Not only can he bull rush or blaze past you, he can also bend at his hips to flatten the edge in a way that should not be feasible at 270 lbs
- He may not be as technically sound as those from more developed coaching rooms but his hand accuracy is elite and he can pin arms to chests or break swipe attempts
- On back to back plays he bullrushed Will Campbell with such force that he lifted Will Campbell off of his feet
- He uses his violent get off to penetrate on zone run concepts, you just cannot hope to half man him, he’s a game breaker in so many ways.
Negatives
- I think his technical bag needs to be deeper at the next level to shoot for Myles Garrett and Nick Bosa’s level of polish because that is where he can aspire towards
- He is a little stiff but it’s nowhere near the level of concern that has been assigned to him by analysts
- In my opinion his low sack production can be explained by his teammates cleaning up the chaos he creates.
Ryan’s Summary
Shemar has the skill set that’s usually coveted in 1st overall type Edge rushers and to be honest I’m starting to wonder why he’s not a top 3 candidate. Explosive speed, violent power and freaky agility; Stewart has all the raw tools you want to see in a disruptive edge rusher. I have very little concern for production as his game will translate to the next level and with less quick game and more true pass sets he will feast.
