Ryan’s Notes

Positives

  • Holds up vs double teams immensely well, he doesn’t give an inch with his front heel firmly in the ground
  • Williams is a beast against the run, he can swim or stack and shed so effectively to break A or B gap run concepts all on his own, it is not smart to run to his side and expect your guard to handle him solo
  • His hands are quick and whilst his first step isn’t explosive, he can use them to put himself in position to be in control of the rep because of them
  • The way he holds blockers at bay with a strong grip means he can control the blocks to play two gaps when he needs to.

Negatives

  • Whilst OSU were happy to flex him out to 3t I don’t think this is a somewhere I’d be comfortable putting him there on pass downs as he has very limited speed and gets caught outside the play with no path for recourse
  • Whilst I think he’s light on his feet his lateral agility is not great and he struggles to turn the corner on backdoor jumps or when rounding out a pass rush into the backfield
  • Even as a spiker on stunts he doesn’t bring any juice, he seems to be hard pressed when sliding diagonally and doesn’t slam into his blockers with any kind of force.

Ryan’s Summary

Run stuffing big man with incredible lower half strength to hold up double teams and make a mess of run lanes vs gap concepts. His quick hands and surprisingly light feet means he’s able to control blocks if he doesn’t get around them and it’s tough going to run the ball at either side of his nose alignments. Tyleik offers very little upside as a pass rusher so you’re drafting someone for early downs only which is a luxury for most teams so this limits his ceiling however he is so good at breaking the ground game that he’s going to have some fans early on Day 2. I’d be happy to see him taken at 55. Despite his mass he can play two gaps very well and looks to fit into an odd front better although his experience in the Buckeyes even front means he has the capacity to play both in a hybrid front too.
