Ryan’s Notes

Positives

  • Versatile profile, LSU used him in the slot, at safety or wherever he was needed which gave them flexibility to match offensive formations.
  • Played well against screens usually seeing them develop earlier than his teammates.
  • Can make open field tackles in the low areas of the field especially when coming off the edge. He prefers to dive low and wipe out legs although his lack of wrapping up brings questions.
  • He can make some route exchanges in good time when covering deep zones

Negatives

  • Looks slow on tape especially when compared to future NFL players.
  • He has an awful run/pass read which takes him out of running lanes. He is found looking away from the play all too often.
  • His overall awareness is poor, he is often late to reacting to his route keys and keeps repeating the same mistakes.
  • Prefers to play soft press but has neither the hip speed or reaction times to do so. He repeatedly let Ryan Williams have a free release despite him being burned multiple times as he failed to slide over his route stem.
  • From his soft press he likes to fall into underneath trail but his slower speed means he relies on the ball being underthrown or having safety help over the top.
  • Not a physical player at all, he doesnโ€™t run away from contact but he offers little resistance and therefore often loses contact battles.
  • He loses speed through turns and rounds off a lot of his adjustment footwork.

Ryan’s Summary

Zy profiles as a player who could be replaced every single year without the need to spend draft capital. His below average athleticism, poor awareness and lack of physical upside means he will probably be limited to a backup especially as he only has 13 total snaps on special teams. Alexander projects as a Cover 3 corner who can use his experience to limit deep throws however he has very few qualities that will earn him the right to be on the field so his best ability will likely be availability however this is made tougher by his ACL tear which ended his 2023 season early. His positional flexibility and SEC experience may mean he is drafted but I wouldnโ€™t be surprised if he slides out the bottom of Day 3.
