Ryan’s Notes

Positives

  • Grant is a huge man at 340 lbs yet he is light on his feet meaning he can be a consistent threat to the backfield.
  • You’d think a man of that size would win through sheer strength but honestly Kenneth is technically sound and agile meaning he can swim through traffic to penetrate consistently.
  • The way he can stack, pivot his hips, shed and make tackles is special and again I am in awe of how he is doing this at such a huge size.
  • I absolutely love how he moves in space considering his mass, he is able to cover massive amounts of ground quickly when he climbs to get to screens and hitches
  • His motor is relentless and has an understanding of where to be to help out his teammates and that’s valuable.
  • His stregth shows up in flashes but not as often as it should, when he lowers his pad level to square up run blocks it’s impressive.
  • I can’t get over how fast he is over in short areas, his get off is average but his footwork and hand speed mean he can dismiss out leveraged blockers in a flash to get into the backfield.
  • His swim move is efficient and nasty, he scrapes so tight to fill and replace leaving him in the middle of run lanes much to the ball carrier’s confusion.

Negatives

  • As often is the case with players of his stature I worry about how he will hold up to life in the NFL trenches as he is so top heavy with slimmer legs that might not be able to sustain lateral contact
  • He has already missed the off-season testing due to a hamstring issue.
  • He plays far too high and it costs him in multiple phases of the game; he gets twisted when at the top of blocks and he is forced off balance by lateral pressure both of which are required when taking on double teams which he does poorly considering how much bigger he is than most lineman.
  • His play height means he loses balance when trying to cut corners and his agility isn’t good enough to stop simple physics meaning he goes down too easily.
  • Whilst I think his play strength is decent it should be much better considering his mass, the bench press represented this properly with his 15th percentile result.
  • He is massive but he’s not tall and he can be held at length by longer players.
  • Sometimes his swim moves open up chances to rib shot him as he isn’t able to crash down with enough speed to put off these attempts.

Ryan’s Summary

Kenneth Grant is a hulking mass that somehow glides across the football field to not only fire into backfields to cause TFLs but he manages to demolish tunnel screens as he is able to cover ground in a way that should not be physically possible. I am in constant awe of how agile and flexible he is, it is a crying shame his hamstring injury has caused us to miss his testing, I am sure it would have been nationalised TV. Grant is a run focused interior player who lines up as a nose but has the athletic skills to play a 3t as well. Best used in an even front where he can shoot gaps and backdoor zone blocks with his short area burst however he has a tidy swim move that could help him transition to an odd front role if a team has that need. Grant plays too high and his size doesn’t translate to strength because of it so there are enough concerns to drop him down to the bottom of the first for me.
