Chargers fans, we’ve made it! Week One is finally upon us, and we get our first real look at what’s to come in the new Jim Harbaugh era.
Despite subpar backup quarterback play, fans were treated to an exciting and refreshing training camp experience. The bottom of the roster was continuously churned through as Joe Hortiz and the front office continued to invite athletes to compete for a roster spot. The Bolts snagged a waiver claim in Hassan Haskins, traded for a significant depth upgrades at defensive back and quarterback, and parted ways with Telesco holdovers that never quite picked up the pace of the NFL.
The Los Angeles Chargers are not entering this season with the all-star cast of skill players of years past. This isn’t a team that pundits – and even some fans – expect to make a major splash this year. But this team has significantly progressed at the margins. The depth has been expertly cultivated by an expert front office and coaching staff. Many post-hype players have been brought in on prove-it deals that are eager to reaffirm their talent and value in the league. But most importantly, the team’s culture has been completely turned around in a matter of months.
Today, we get to see what sort of immediate returns fans can expect for the investment the Spanos family made into this elite staff. The Chargers are set to play against the Las Vegas Raiders in SoFi Stadium, where rookie Joe Alt will be tasked with minimizing the disruption Maxx Crosby causes this new-look offense.

Here we go StormCloud! WHO’S GOT IT BETTER THAN US?!

Run game about to bust one.
Ok. Game on. LFG!!!!
I want to see hurry up offense here. Let Herbert get in a rhythm.
Why would he catch that? Idiot.
That’s more like it!
Great rush by Bosa
Is the Charger curse stronger than the Harbaugh MOJO?
Minter’s defense looks as leaky as Staleys.
Maybe now they’ll turn up the heat.
Just so negative in here. Gonna just watch and catch up later.
I understand this reaction.
Catch ya later.
Maybe they can score on defense.
since they can’t tackle….
Pipkins has zero fucking awareness picking up stunts.
JFC!!!! This is Harbaugh discipline????
5 penalties. Some fucking discipline
It looks like Herbert will have to put on his Superman suit today if we want the W. Hope he’s ready
Run game looks dominant.
Here comes the offense. Let’s get this shit done!!!!
Not looking like an NFL guard
Bosa gonna play, I guess. Nice.
Great play Bosa!
Come on defense, make Minshew uncomfortable and get that ball as quickly as possible
So this is a Roman offense?
I’m underwhelmed so far.
QJ wants to play!
Fuck the run game. Let Herbert cook.
Wow….disciplined.
You would think a Harbaugh led team have that part covered
We look like the fucking Raiders. 4 penalties? Some discipline
Can we see some of those exotic blitzes we heard everyone blowing themselves over in pre season?
All right. No more week one jitters. Take that ball and f*cking BOLT UP!!! ⚡️ ⚡️ ⚡️
Tackling still an issue. You learn it in pee wee football. You tackle by USING UOUR ARMS TO FUCKING WRAP UP. Going for these shoulder block blow ups does not work!!!!
Tackling
Damn this physical D at the LOS is refreshing
I expect this offense to be a work in progress. Will be better later in the season.
And fuuuuuuuckkkkkkk….
Crap….don’t let Gardner Minshew shred ya, guys.
Dicker earning his new contract.
Sheesh….had to beg to get our game on!!!
Missed the first series.
You are watching at a bar or something?
Dicker. $
Jesus our “big ticket" TE free agent stinking it up so far
This D looks for real. Let’s see that offense happen.
Dissly is a fucking penalty machine.
Damn I love this defense already
This defense looks great so far. Finally controlling the LOS
Hell yeah, man. Love me some defense!!!
This offense looks very pedestrian so far.
That raiders d-line is no joke. Seeing around the league it seems like a lot of offenses struggles. Kinda forgot how sloppy week 1 football can be
Gotta love seeing the defense be feisty and then follow that up with stonewalling them twice
Bosa in beast mode.
Holy Shit. Was that run D?
I feel like I have never seen that from the Chargers. I can get used to it though!
Herbert hit twice in 4-plays
Yeah protection didn’t look good on that 1st drive.
Not an inspiring first drive. Let’s see what the D looks like.
Feeling the same ole, same ole.
Wow….Cincy losing to NE.
Stopped off on the way home from NYC to watch game.
Thx for the GDT, Kyle.
Any time my friend! 🙂
Inactives listed for the day:
Heinicke
Still
Vidal
McFadden
Rice
Eboigbe
Biggest surprise to me is the “fullback” McFadden.
Does anyone know the reason why there have to be inactives? I mean, I know it’s the rule, but why is it a rule? Wouldn’t it make more sense to play 53v53 than 47v47?
I don’t know the “why" I just know I hate the rule! Doesn’t make sense to me at all for a league that’s trying to trim down injuries.
No idea why they have the rule, but it’s not that.
@arne-sixpakfrombelgium
All right. I’m going to get to the bottom of this. It makes no sense in the world to have six dudes in sweat pants, making paychecks, not to contribute to the team.
Just to avoid Buck’s ire, I will note that I generally do not post in game day threads. At BFTB, that was partly because the quality of the posts in those threads was so poor and full of negativity and trolling. But it was always mainly because I am focused on watching the game, not posting about it.
This offended you? Wasn’t my intent, and I don’t have an issue. I enjoy interacting with you, just didn’t understand why you were complaining that posters in a Chargers forum weren’t posting about a Chiefs-Ravens game. My reference to you was in good fun. No worries on my end.
READY TO RUN THROUGH A BRICK WALL, FELLAS.
But sadly I’ll be hosting company during the game. I may get lucky and can put it on in the background, but I won’t be able to follow along with you all, which is a total bummer.
I’ll be around for the post-game though, and will be watching on delay. Will try to check in and comment when I can… I don’t have the discipline to “respect the pause."
