I’m fairly passionate about football but do try to not overreact. However, the article I’m going to post here has me pretty irritated this morning.
Who thinks “platooning” an offensive line position is a good idea?!?! Doesn’t that fly in the face of continuity, which if important in any unit is critical here? Don’t we, at minimum, already know what we have, and more importantly DON’T have, in Pipkins?? We should have enough data to name a starter….period. Having to move Slaughter into the starting center position should not be creating this mindset.
I’m beyond tired of the walk from Harbaugh not matching the talk. We endured a disconnect between stated intent/direction with Roman for 2 years. The issues with the IOL have hung around for too long and not been adequately addressed. Goofy speeches and disconnects between talk and action are wasting Herbert’s best years.
I’m not calling for Harbaugh’s head but I am saying that his stated directions for this team and the actions being taken to get there are, IMO, disconnected.
Jim Harbaugh on Who Will Start at Left Guard for the Chargers – Yahoo Sports https://share.google/XWgPhUZiRmf7V2R7Y

This article says Strange has more reps at LG, Awosika (and Pipkins) at RG. So why the switch? I was unaware of this until now.
Why Chargers won’t name starting left guard yet as season nears https://share.google/P1YObgOV6J4uTEp9J
We signed Mekhi Becton in free agency last offseason because Pipkins had shown himself to be an abject failure as a Guard.
And now, 12 months later, we are back to considering…..Pipkins.
Granted it’s a difference scheme but Pipkins’ athleticism has always been overrated. He gets his arse kicked by speed rushers as much as power rushers. And he doesn’t fire off the ball in the run game as well as Slater, Alt, or even Burke.
I don’t get it.
I think this is just Harbaugh speak and lipservice for now. It may be that in the new system they really just don’t know yet who is going to be the best fit when it comes to actual gametime and they are using this messaging as a way to explain that once the season starts they still might be experimenting a bit.
All of camp and preseason and they still don’t know? That alone is concerning.
I agree with your sentiments 100%. Unless this is some sort of gamesmanship or trolling from Harbaugh, this premise is dumb. We are going on year 3 and the question marks for the IOL still remain. “Tip of the spear” my ass.
